THE RESTORATION OF A
SEVENTEENTH CENTURY COURT CUPBOARD.
In the first picture you
can see the court cupboard before restoration work began. It
needed a new side panel, front & back leg. The nails securing
the back boards, top boards and shelf boards had all rotted away,
consequently some boards were missing and others had badly warped.
It also needed to be cleaned, revived and treated for woodworm.
In the
next picture you can see the court cupboard after cleaning with
its new legs and side panel. The next job was to age and distress
the new wood so that it matched the existing woodwork.
The third picture shows the re-fitted shelf boards once they had
been straightened, cleaned and new hand wrought nails forged.
In the last picture you can see the court cupboard once
restoration work had been completed and it had been finished with
a beeswax polish.
