RESTORATION OF A CAST IRON FIREPLACE

First replacement cast iron plates are attached to the back of the fireplace, the old plates had burnt away so there was no means of supporting the front bars or fire brick back

The next step is to fix the damaged area at the top of the fireplace, in the picture below you can see the new cast iron piece clamped in position ready for welding.





After welding has taken place any rust and build up or old black lead is removed using a powered wire brush





Finally the fireplace is re-blacked and polished using a lead free grate polish.
